Thank you to Discount Supplements for sending me a box of these flapjacks to taste and review.
Grenade is a supplement manufacturer which has grown in popularity over the last few years, with their Thermo Detonator fat burner becoming a huge hit with bodybuilders around the globe.
But are their protein bars also up to scratch?

I got sent the fusion fruit flavoured Grenade bars. If I’m honest, I wasn’t overly excited to try this flavour as it didn’t sound very appealing to me. I’m not alone with this view as it says on the Discount Supplements product page only 3% of customers try this flavour. However, after munching on my first bar…I enjoyed it. Nothing out of this world, but for a protein bar it was pretty nice.
Not bad for a flavour I’m not a big fan of.
It was a little powdery but this is to be expected with most protein bars that are trying to squeeze in as much protein as possible.
They’re also pretty strong smelling, which I put down to the dried cranberry content in the bar. This isn’t a bad smell that will put you off though, so no need to worry about this.
The cost of these bars are very cheap from Discount Supplements. You can easily end up spending £2+ per protein bar, so the fact they only cost just over £1 per bar is very good going.
You can also save an extra 5%, at the time of writing this article, if you use the code: PUSH5
And you can get free post and packaging on all orders over £50, helping you save even more when you put in a good-sized order.
If they could get the protein bars down to £1 per bar or less, I’d give them a perfect rating of 5 stars.
Nutritional Info (4/5)
There’s 291 calories per bar which is very high for what it is. So you might want to save these bars for when you’re bulking. The reason the calorie content is high is because rapeseed oil is one of the main ingredients. This is a good source of healthy (unsaturated) fats that will help lower your LDL cholesterol levels.
With 18.6 grams of protein per bar, this is a good serving of protein. It’s not the biggest serving I’ve ever seen in a protein bar, but it’s enough to keep protein synthesis levels ticking over.
I’m pleased to see that this bar is a pretty healthy one. No nasty artificial sweeteners like sucralose or aspartame which will damage your health if consumed on a regular basis. Instead Grenade have taken a more natural approach and have included cranberries, raisins and apricots. These natural fructose sugars will prevent your blood sugar levels from crashing and give you increased energy throughout the day.
I would recommend eating these protein bars after your workouts, as the rolled oats and soya protein content can have mild sedative effects. Consequently your adrenaline levels will decrease which isn’t ideal before a workout. If you really want to eat these before a workout it should be fine, as long as it’s 3 or more hours beforehand.
The only thing I’d change in terms of the ingredients, if I was going to eat these bars on a regular basis, would be the soya protein content. There’s no questioning that soya is a great source of protein, but there’s evidence to suggest soya could decrease testosterone levels. Saying that, you’d have to eat a few of these bars every day for it to have a significant effect on your testosterone count. So ultimately this is nothing to worry about if you’re eating these bars sparingly or in moderation (like most people would).
✅ Very affordable
✅ Healthy ingredients
✅ Nice taste
As previously mentioned, I wouldn’t eat these bars whilst cutting as they’re pretty high calorie. However, they would be a great purchase for when you’re bulking, easily bumping up your calories.
I enjoyed the taste of these bars with a flavour I’m not particularly keen on, so I’m sure I’d love the chocolate browning flavour which is a customer favourite (82% of customers buy this).
